Dear Richard Smith,
There is no need to respond to this, but perhaps you should be aware of it - given your good views about the quality of much published medical literature, and the value of peer review. Briefly, I've spent three months failing to get chapter & verse on what seems to me like some pretty funny data in the recent BMJ piece on ADRs/drug-induced iatrogenic illness. Perhaps my request to Prof Breckenridge was a bit too provocative - but now I'm having another go. I hope I'm not taking your name in vain. The attached letter is pretty much self-explanatory, and identifies the gaps I think there are.
Sincerely,

Dear Professor Breckenridge,
I am enclosing a copy of the letter I have today sent to Dr Pirmohamed, requesting some further information about your Department's recent paper on ADRs and drug-induced illness. I think the letter is self-explanatory, and I hope this abbreviated request seems reasonable to you.
Yours sincerely
