ANTIDEPRESSANT + ALCOHOL INTERACTIONS?

Social Audit is collaborating with two doctors – trusted specialists in the field - in a study of possible alcohol + antidepressant interactions. Preliminary research suggests this could be an important area of research – but further data are needed. We are posting to our Discussion Board the following appeal for help with this research:

We are two medical doctors with special training in the effects of prescription drugs. Based in part on ADWEB's valuable archive of user experiences, we became interested in possible interactions of antidepressants with alcohol. This has yet to be properly studied.

We are keen to hear from people who have taken an antidepressant and noticed a definite change in either their use of alcohol, or any effect that alcohol has on them.

If this applies to you, please consider describing your experience on this website. In particular, we would like to know in what way the effect of alcohol is different or unusual, compared with before you took an antidepressant. Examples will be helpful.  It is also important to know if any effect disappears after the antidepressant is stopped, and whether it recurs if the drug is resumed.  Please describe your experience in as much detail as you can, including drug names, doses, and timing of any effects.

It may helpful for us to contact you for more information. Please indicate whether you would be prepared to discuss these matters further by emailing us in confidence at [email protected] All material used in our study will be anonymised to protect privacy.

Many thanks for your help in our study of this important but neglected area.
