Dear Mr Medawar,

Thank you for your letter of 28 December 2000 about your earlier letter of 25 July concerning Detrusitol. The Agency's Advertising Unit is in correspondence with the company on the points you made in your letter. As I am sure you can appreciate, such correspondence may on occasions be contentious and is time-consuming. Until that correspondence has been completed, and in all honesty I cannot at this time estimate when that will be, the Advertising Unit will not be able to let you have a reply to your letter.

However, that does not excuse the Unit's silence since July. Your letter should have been acknowledged and the situation, with its uncertain time frame, explained to you. I unreservedly apologise on behalf of the Agency that that was not done.
